Rev. Michael-John (M.J.) Pope serves as the pastor of Byhalia United Methodist Church. Br. M.J. led his first worship service at Byhalia UMC on July 4, 2021.

Br. M.J. is an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church. He has previously served Barton United Methodist Church and Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in the Senatobia District, and Jumpertown United Methodist Church in the New Albany District. Br. M.J. is married to Dena, a teacher at Byhalia Elementary School.

Teresa Strickland first started attending BUMC when her husband Mark was invited to play drums with Prayznmore almost two years ago and feels absolutely blessed when she was asked to teach the Youth class on Sunday morning and Wednesday night.  After retirement in June 2022, Teresa thanks God for the best gift — the opportunity to teach, serve and love our youth. “It has been my absolute joy, pleasure and blessing! I praise God for my church family!”
